Goals and the Obstacles that Stand in our Way

What are your goals, how do you figure out what you really want? And how do you achieve them? Amira Alvarez knows how to help people navigate goal achievement.

Tell us your story.

Everyone has a history and there’s the long evolution to people’s career, but this version of my business, I had built a previous business and enjoyed that. Learned a ton about building something from scratch, then when I moved to the midwest, I decided I wasn’t going to reopen that business, but do something new. I triangulated to what I really loved to do and what I was good at. All my clients were women entrepreneurs who started working with me. I became fascinated with how to create exponential success. There are a lot of standard teachings out there which are very tactical and good, and yet we can all have this sort of same information and access to it and some of us may get it big time and some of us make this incremental increase. What’s the difference there? My story was, I started this business and I did well. I tripled my income the first year, I did better the next year. I was at that 6 figure mark and was proud of myself for getting there, but I was working the 14 hour workdays. I couldn’t double my work hours to double my income. The math didn’t work on how I was brought up to understand how you got success. I was brought up in that you get good grades, work hard, put in the time, dot your I’s and cross your t’s. You go for excellence an the reward is you get whatever you’re going after. In this case is was building my business. I didn’t see the path. It didn’t make sense. There was no leverage or scale there. This couldn’t be the way people did it. I went about studying success and figure out what really successful people did to rapidly scale their business.. I went from 138,000 to 700k. It was pretty phenomenal.

It’s not that hard works not part of it, it is. It’s not magic falling from the sky. You do have to put in the work. You need to put your love and passion into it. Hard work isn’t the only piece of it. Coming from a wealthy background isn’t it.

We all have ideas and goals, how do you do that, how do you get out of your own way?

Let me break down a high-level how it works. First and foremost, you have to own what you truly want. Sounds super simple but most people have some sort of double bind or internal conflict. Let’s say you want a multiple seven figure business, but unconsciously you think that money is the root of all evil. That’s a double bind. Why would you become evil to get this thing. You’re in conflict with it. The first step is to figure out what you really want and own it. Let that drop in and let it be kinda crazy kinda scary and how will that happen. You’ll go into this denial phase almost immediately, “Who am I to have that?” Or “How would that happen?” You have to stop that, you have to be aware of it and put a little pause to it. My goal the first year was to get a million, I didn’t do it, but I got close. You block yourself out of it because you can’t see the path. But if you really want to make a million and you didn’t see the path but when you said that my ears went up. It was a true desire. Meaning my own desire not someone else’s. I can help people get there. Don’t worry about the how, I can help you. It starts with desire and then you have to know and have to define. If you tell me where you’re at now and where you want to be, there’s a gap. Most of the time we get in our own darn way.

A lot of us don’t think far out, how do you figure out where you want to be?

The short answer is I generally ask people to think shorter term. Their business will be different next year if they are growing rapidly. You need to think about foreseeable future. Now life goals and lifestyle goals, I would argue, that you actually know. You actually know what you want. When asked and given permission, just tell me what you want.

Let’s talk about our devices and the affect they have on us?

It’s a love hate thing. They are the most amazing things in the world. What we get done and how it saves us time, it’s tremendous. To throw the baby out with the bath water, I can’t get behind that. Are we a wee bit addicted and distracted? If you’re phone is distracting you, it’s your responsibility to turn it on silent.
